This Just In: Just Say Yes by Marcus Doyle

August 13th, 2010

Drug store, USA © Marcus Doyle/ Agence Vu

We’re sure we will not be licensing this as a destination travel shot for the next Arizona ad campaign, but this unusual take on a drugstore sign glowing above manicured bushes might just find a home if someone needs an outside-the-box visual to illustrate a story or concept on drugs or pharmaceuticals.

This Just In: Kevin Brown’s Son Follows His Dad’s Lead

August 11th, 2010

Kevin Brown, a gifted climber, Olympic level athletic trainer and veteran of Yosemite Big Walls recently passed away from an aggressive cancer at age 50. A man with a heart of gold, he left behind his wife Lori, two young children (Rachel 13 and Ryan 11 yrs) and countless friends.  Recently, his climbing partners’ families gathered at the house of El Capitan speed ascent record holder Hans Florine in Yosemite National Park to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the place that Kevin loved so deeply. A highlight of the gathering was young Ryan’s first multi-pitch climb on the 5 pitch classic line “Nutcracker”.  He was led up the route by his Dad’s three close climbing partners, Mike Carville, Christian Santelices and photographer Kevin Steele. Ryan is certainly following in his father’s footsteps.

Corey Rich Joins the SanDisk Extreme Team

August 6th, 2010

Aurora Select photographer Corey Rich was recently named to the SanDisk Extreme Team. SanDisk has long recognized that not all professional photographers are working in controlled studio environments. Many of them travel to inhospitable environments (by choice) to capture the perfect image. When working under these conditions, choosing the right gear is essential. The SanDisk Extreme Team is a celebration of “professional photographers whose vision is as uncompromising as their equipment”.

This Just In: Goat Whisperer by Kevin Horan

August 5th, 2010

Whisper. Back of a Nubian dairy goat

Kevin says, “Admiring the sheep who live across the road from me, I noticed that they each seemed to have their own personality. I thought it would be fun to dignify each one with its own human-style portrait, just as if they’d gone down to the hometown photo studio. As it turned out, those particular sheep are wild as March hares. The prospect of setting up lights and backdrop proved, for me anyway, impossible. So I’ve been seeking out other, more socialized, goats and sheep in the area.”

This Just In: Beach Bypass by Woods Wheatcroft

August 3rd, 2010

Little girl on a beach looking through binoculars while a four wheeler speeds by on the horizon. Mexico © Woods Wheatcroft

Woods says: This frame was captured on the beach in Baja with my daughter. She likes to style herself. We brought binoculars to look for whales and pelicans from the beach. So while she was looking around with the binoculars a local passed by on a four wheeler. It seemed to create a spontaneous juxtaposition, the two subjects converging having very little to do with one another. Even their spatial relation to each other suggests very separate worlds.

I would say over the years my eye has become tuned to capturing spontaneity–often with an ironic and humorous twist. I can’t say I go out looking for spontaneity (you can’t really), rather moments happen and I have started to see them just before they happen enabling me the opportunity to click the shutter.

This Just In: Marcus Doyle Sees The Other Side

August 2nd, 2010

Flagstaff, Arizona, USA © Marcus Doyle/ Agence Vu

An unusual night scene of empty parking spaces, trees, shadows and a funky brown stain on the wall. It’s this kind of oddity that makes VU images so interesting.
