Aurora Select photographer Katja Heinemann went on assignment for the July/August 2010 Anniversary double issue of Smithsonian Magazine. Katja photographed MIT scientist John Ochsendorf in conjunction with his installation of an ancient vault building technique at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City. The shoot had to take place in Boston, as the installation wasn’t completed in time for the magazine deadline, and it turns out that the Boston Public Library had several historic rooms that feature traditional vaulted ceilings, so she had a great fall-back location.

Aurora photographer Todd Bigelow’s image appeared in the June 14, 2010 Sports Illlustrated US Open Preview Issue. Todd was asked to shoot a portrait of Jim Langley, former golf pro at Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach, CA. Cypress Point, adjacent to Pebble Beach Golf Links, site of the 2010 US Open, is one of the world’s most exclusive, private golf clubs. Mr Langley was reminiscing about his friendship with legendary caddie Eddie Lowery.
Bigelow remarks on the assignment, “Doing the shoot in the Cypress Point locker room was like stepping into a piece of American history. Little has changed over the decades. Photographs of people from the famously rich to our nation’s presidents line the walls of the small locker room with creaky floors. I laughed as I pulled into the tiny parking lot underneath the famous Cypress trees and my rental car’s GPS announced “You have arrived.” Despite having heard that many times on many trips, this time it took on an entirely different meaning.”

Aurora Photographer Micahel Winokur’s portrait of Aaron Gray of Burnett and Company recently appeared in the June 2010 issue of BizTech Magazine.
The editors at BizTech were specific about not wanting to show Aaron with technology, the goal was a creative portrait. Michael faced two obstacles when he got to Burnett and Company. The building wasn’t exciting but there was a bigger issue, he was shooting at an accounting company on April 13. He couldn’t exactly make himself at home. Instead, he improvised, taking Aaron outside the office and across the street to take advantage of the day’s beautiful weather.
