spear_portfolio_013

Aurora Select Photographer Andrew Spear recently won a “Best of 2009″ award from American Illustration – American Photography. Over 8000 pictures were entered by over 1200 photographers, magazines, agencies and publishers. Out of these the jury selected only 304 images to appear in a book representing the best photographs from 2009. Say’s Spear’s “Glouster, Ohio is a town I drove though many times while exploring the area surrounding my school, Ohio University. I was very curious to understand the Appalachian culture, and after seeing images from Glouster in it’s heyday, the 1950′s, I decided to start documenting how it has changed in the last fifty years. It’s important that towns such as this are documented for historical record of the ever-changing American landscape.” Spear’s work, part of this elite group, will appear in full color in this year’s American Photography 26 annual. His images will also appear on THREE, American Illustration – American Photography’s web gallery. The full list of winners will be posted here.
