Aurora photographer Benjamin Drummond has been awarded the first annual $10,000 inaugural Grant for Change from Nau – a hip, outdoor clothing company in Portland, Oregon – along with writer Sara Joy Steele. The pair was selected from a pool of 294 people after a six-week open nomination period. The grant will help fund their long-term documentary project, Facing Climate Change.

The project tells stories of global climate change through local people with photography, field audio, and writing and began with a series of stories on Sami reindeer herders in Norway, volunteer glacier monitors from Iceland and North Atlantic fisherman. Drummond and Steele are currently working in the American West as they continue documenting the lives of people around the world who must confront and adapt to the complex issues of global warming.
