Aurora photographer Rhea Anna has recently shot a seven image ad campaign for Bethesda Row, a high end retail shopping center in Maryland. Each ad highlights two of Bethesda Row’s retail outlets, illustrating the ‘uncommon mix of life and style’. For example, in one of Rhea’s images the model is seen wearing make-up from Aveda and a sushi earring from Raku Sushi.
When asked about the assignment, Rhea said, “Since my work is a fusion of fashion and lifestyle that’s traditionally shot on location, this project was a unique opportunity for me to showcase some studio lighting and beauty work. It was so great to be able to explore the ideas of the art director with an amazing creative team in a controlled environment.” “My favorite aspect of this project was in how it came to me. I’ve known the art director for several years but we hadn’t had the chance to work on a project together. Over the years she remembered my work and said she was waiting for an opportunity to work together. I was so thankful that she called me for this project and was willing to take a leap of faith because the kind of photography it called for is not what I show in my book”, she continued.

Aurora photographers Susana Raab and Scott Goldsmith are currently featured as a two-person exhibition in the New Works Gallery at the Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The New Works Gallery is a space for Silver Eye members to exhibit their recent work, rotating each month, to keep members and visitors informed of contemporary trends in the field.
In Susana Raab’s portion of the exhibition, entitled Consumed, her images expose the fast food industry’s often unseen consequences on our health and the environment, along with their intrusive advertising campaigns. “Americans are slaves to an industry whose influence over our society we do not fully comprehend. And we abet this national drama through the worship of the signs and totems of this junk food culture, proving the efficacy of the billions spent on fast food related advertising”, says Susana. For this series, she used a medium-format film to achieve more saturated colors, portraying the hyper-reality of this industry’s advertising conventions.
In Scott Goldsmith’s portion of the exhibition, entitled Political, his photographs depict moments and stories in the world of American politics, including the recent inauguration of President Obama, that are only seen first hand. “I have been blessed and lucky to travel with US Presidents and presidential candidates. It was during these assignments that I became fascinated by what the public did not see in the nightly TV news cast”, says Goldsmith. “It is the amazing experiences we are allowed to witness just because we have a camera or a plastic credential”. In the future, Scott hopes to turn his ongoing project into a book.

Aurora photographer Corey Rich conducted a photo shoot this past October for Road Runner Sports’ latest sportswear catalog, with a focus on running and the running lifestyle. The still images and video content was shot during a four day assignment in Vail, Colorado and San Diego, California. “Shooting the video and stills with the same camera allowed me to piggyback the productions”, says Corey. This allowed him to use the same locations, talent, and crew for both productions without the needs to add extra shoot days. The result? A video that perfectly compliments the print component. When asked about the shoot, Corey said “This style of production represents the future of visual storytelling. The new technology, coupled with a new way of approaching the subject, allows me to work in an environment where the only limit is my own imagination.” All content was captured using Nikon DSLR cameras- the stills on the Nikon D3 and video on the Nikon D90. Aurora photographer Michael Hanson’s images of Waimea Canyon are featured in the November issue of Continental Airline’s in-flight magazine to illustrate an eight-page travel article about inland adventure on Kauai. Also known as “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, Waimea Canyon is relatively easy to access at the rim, but the article suggests the best way to experience it is to hike straight down for a view from below.
“It was my first trip to Hawaii and since I usually prefer mountains to beaches, I was excited to see the inland canyons of the island. That being said, I did get a little time to surf and enjoy the beach,” says Hanson.

Aurora photographer Benjamin Drummond has been awarded the first annual $10,000 inaugural Grant for Change from Nau – a hip, outdoor clothing company in Portland, Oregon – along with writer Sara Joy Steele. The pair was selected from a pool of 294 people after a six-week open nomination period. The grant will help fund their long-term documentary project, Facing Climate Change.
The project tells stories of global climate change through local people with photography, field audio, and writing and began with a series of stories on Sami reindeer herders in Norway, volunteer glacier monitors from Iceland and North Atlantic fisherman. Drummond and Steele are currently working in the American West as they continue documenting the lives of people around the world who must confront and adapt to the complex issues of global warming.

Aurora Select photographer Todd Korol has been featured in the Fall 2009 issue of Canadian Geographic Travel Magazine in a 10-page story about fly fishing on the famous Bow River. The river is located in the middle of Calgary, with a population of one million, yet still holds the reputation as a world-class trout fishing destination.
“I grew up in the outdoors, fishing with my father and hunting with my grandfather. Fishing always takes me back to a very simple time of my childhood. Now I take my son fishing. It’s a great way to connect with your children and family”, says Korol.
