Aurora photographer Jason Florio was interviewed recently by Amber Terranova for PDN Pulse, PDN’s photography blog. In the interview, Jason talks about his experiences at Review Santa Fe, an event that gives professionals the chance to get their portfolios reviewed, network with other people in the field, as well as enjoy a wicked good Mexican buffet. When asked what the most significant part of the review was for him, Jason replied “…to me the most significant part was being with my peers and having one on one conversations with them, seeing their amazing and inspiring work, sharing experiences and discussing working in the market under current conditions.” To read the rest of the interview, click here.

The cover story for the April 29, 2009 edition of the British Journal of Photography featured interviews with Aurora photographers Corey Rich and Keith Ladzinski, naming them as 2 of the 4 best in the field. Keith discusses the equipment he commonly uses on shoots and recounts some of his more harrowing adventures in the field. “I’ve shot all over the world, from the Rocklands of South Africa to an alpine ascent near Golden in British Columbia. That was a miserable experience but somehow fun. We were choppered in and dropped off for a six-day stay in the backcountry, but on our arrival the light snow turned into a full-fledged blizzard…” says Keith.
Aurora shooter and Vice President Corey Rich talks about his team at Corey Rich Photography, at Aurora and how the love of photography will get you through the tough times. “I didn’t get into it to be rich, and at the beginning it was a labor of love. But if you’re a talented and motivated you can make a living at it. Believe it or not, great photos are in short supply. It takes time to get started – at the beginning you need to fund your own shoots and rely on the stock sales….Then you need to prove to the editors that you can do it, but the more you get published….the more editors begin to recognize you as a player in the photography industry. It can be a long road, so it helps if you’re shooting subject matter you know and love.”

A culmination of images captured over the course of a decade by Aurora photographer Steven J. Kazlowski now compose a book and traveling exhibit, titled The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World. The photographs were taken in various locations from Canada’s Arctic coast to Point Hope, Alaska in celebration of the great, but struggling animal and to document the affect of our changing climate on it’s future.
Steven says, “I offer these images as witness to an iconic species and an ecosystem that may be lost to future generations if we, as a global community, do not take action now.”
The exhibit opened it’s 10 city national tour on May 16, 2009 at The University of Alaska’s Museum of the North and will be traveling next to The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture at the University of Washington on June 28, 2009. Visit The Burke Museum’s website for more information on the exhibit here at http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseum/polarbear/about.php.
