Aurora Select photographer Katja Heinemann’s photos of 1-year old “miracle baby” Austin Schlagheck were featured in the September 29, 2008 issue of People Magazine. The assignment was to document Austin’s battle with life threatening illnesses while at the same time celebrating how far he’s come since his first, dramatic surgeries. Katja traveled to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in May to shoot the family in the environment in which Austin has spent many months of his young life. She then traveled to Florida to document his first birthday party at the family’s home near Cape Canaveral.
