Aurora contributor Todd Bigelow photographed the owners of the Los Angeles Sparks, together with Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker, two of the stars of the WNBA for the Sports Illustrated WNBA preview in May. Says Todd, “It’s always refreshing to photograph elite athletes who are down-to-earth, friendly and easy to work with. I had shot Lisa and Candace just two days prior for a different spread and we had quite a bit of fun, so I think that helped me get a few extra minutes for this shoot.”

Aurora Select contributor Katja Heinemann’s images appear in the May issue of Swiss Sonntagszeitung magazine, as part of a travel piece on Manhattan, New York showcasing locations featured in the upcoming Sex & The City movie. Heinemann explains, “a challenge was to make locations that in real life don’t necessarily look sexy or glamorous without high wattage movie lighting and Sarah Jessica Parker in them look like they’re having sex appeal. The only exception: The meatpacking District, which is shown in the opening image, was still a fairly obscure part of town when I moved to New York. I hadn’t been to the area on a Saturday night in a long time, so when I went to photograph the club scene there for the article I was shocked by the masses of skimpily clad women braving the cobblestone streets in stilettos, with everybody looking as if hey were auditioning for a role as an extra in the lives of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte & Miranda.”

Aurora Select contributor Katja Heinemann’s portrait of Rick Moody ran in the April issue of, Brigitte, Germany’s leading women’s magazine. Rick Moody is the author of The Ice Storm and more recently The Diviners and Right Livelihoods. “It was shot during an interview with a foreign correspondent who had flown in from Germany, I guess you could say that Rick Moody, although notoriously camera shy, showed his visitors around his Brooklyn Park Slope neighborhood, including this spot in Prospect Park, a favorite summertime hang-out for him,” Heinemann comments.

Aurora photographer Stephanie Diani’s images appear in House24 magazine. “I photographed the Hilton Head, South Carolina house of Domenico and Eleanor De Sole for House24 Magazine in early February 2008. The magazine requested images of the house, showing its location on the beach, as well as portraits of the owners,” Diani explains. She adds, “Mr. De Sole and his wife were incredibly hospitable and let myself and my assistant stay in their attached guest house (it is probably three times the size of the house I grew up in). The only hiccup on the assignment was that my assistant had a huge fight with his girlfriend via text message which lasted throughout the trip. It was brutal. They’ve since resolved their issues.”

Aurora Select photographer Bob Croslin captures Charlie Manuel, manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia Magazine wanted a photograph of Manuel away from the baseball field. “The concept was to photograph him in a way that illustrated his stature as a manager,” Bob recalls. “The table of contents image came as my stylist was doing touch-ups on Charlie and several of the Phillies players drove by and gave him a good-natured heckling.” The story appears in the April issue of Philadelphia Magazine.
